Življenjepis:
Miha Haas is a pianist, concert performer, professor of piano and chamber music, a recording artist, a researcher and an advocate of modern approaches to understanding phenomena in the field of music.
As a soloist or a member of chamber groups he has performed in the USA and in countries around Europe, among others Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Croatia, Serbia and UK. He has won prizes at different competitions, domestic and international, most notably the second prize at Concours Grieg 2009 in Oslo in the category of piano duet. As a soloist he has collaborated with different orchestras, performing works by Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Chopin, Gershwin and various Slovenian composers. He regularly participates in first performances of works by contemporary composers, his performances have been acclaimed in domestic as well as foreign press.
In 2010 he released a CD of works for cello and piano (Grieg, Martinů, Savin, Pucihar) with cellist Nikolaj Sajko. The same year he also released a CD of complete works for clarinet and piano by the Slovenian composer Alojz Ajdič, together with clarinettist Tadej Kenig. He also appears on other CDs, most notably on the collection of works of the highly acclaimed young Slovenian composer Nina Šenk.
Haas is actively involved in research from the fields of acoustics of the piano and piano with other instruments and the historic circumstances of the performance practise. He appeared internationally as a lecturer at international conferences of the EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association) in Reykjavik 2016, Malta 2018, Vienna 2019, at the 10th International Piano Forum in Rhodes in 2017, as a guest lecturer he worked at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Kunstuniversität in Graz, Music Academy Zagreb and at the IUP Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the USA. His professional articles have been published in several magazines and periodicals including the Piano Journal.
Haas is a member of the EPTA Slovenia executive board and a member of the editorial board of the professional piano magazine Virkla. He is the project leader of Slovenian annual conferences for piano pedagogues.
Currently he is an associate professor at the Academy of Music University of Ljubljana, where he greatly enjoys teaching the piano literature class, piano duet, chamber music and regularly participates in mentorships of students master’s theses in the field of the performance practise.
Haas was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1983. His first contact with music came through his parents who are also classical musicians. He began playing the piano at the age of 6 and continued with musical education throughout his school years. After finishing his studies at the Ljubljana Music Conservatory in 2001 he was accepted into the class of the famous pianist Dubravka Tomšič at the Academy of Music Ljubljana. After graduating in 2006 he moved to Belgium where he studied two additional years at the Royal Music Conservatory in the class of the renowned pianist Aleksandar Madžar. He obtained the master’s degree with great distinction.
During his studying years he attended several international master classes, led by internationally acclaimed professors such as I. Lasko, J. Siirala, P. Paleczny, J. M. Huizing, M. Voskresenski and others. In the year 2005 he was awarded the Prešeren prize, the highest student prize awarded by The University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
